some sharks can weigh more than 4,500 pounds (2,000 kilograms)
DIET
Great white sharks are carnivorous and primarily eat fish including Rays, tuna and other small sharks. They also enjoy feasting on dolphins, porpoises, whales carcasses and pinnipeds such as seals, fur seals and sea lions and occaisionally Sea otters and penguins are attacked at times but rarely eaten
BIRTH
When a great white shark is born, with up to twelve other brother and sisters, it immedietly swims away from it's mother and father. It's parents now may only see it as prey. Alone from the very start. A baby shark is already about 5 feet (1.5 meters long) and as it grows through the years, it can grow up to three times that size.
DESCRIPTION
They have slate-grey upper bodies to blend in with the rocky coastal sea floor, but get their name from their universally white underbellies. They are streamlined, torpedo-shaped swimmers with powerful tails that can propel them through the water at speeds of up to 15 miles (24 kilometers) per hour. They can even leave the water completely, breaching like whales when attacking prey from underneath.
PREY
Highly adapted predators, their mouths are lined with up to 3,000 serrated, triangular teeth arranged in several rows, and they have an exceptional sense of smell to detect prey. They even have organs that can sense the tiny electromagnetic fields generated by animals. Their main prey items include sea lions, seals, small toothed whales, and even sea turtles, and carrion. Great whites can detect one drop of blood in 25 gallons (100 liters) of water and can sense tiny amounts of blood in the water up to 3 miles (5 kilometers) away.
SIZE
A typical adult great white shark measures 4 - 4.8 metres(13–16 ft) and has a mass of 680 – 1,100 kilograms (1,500–2,400 lbs), females generally being larger than males. The great white shark's "normal" maximum size is about 6 m (20 ft), with a "normal" maximum weight of about 1,900 kg (4,200 lb).
